Does your friend suddenly look slimmer? And perhaps, her backside is bustier? Her body looks different? Well, it’s probably because of the subtle magic created by shapewear!
Shapewear (or a foundation garment) is an undergarment designed to impermanently alter the wearer’s body shape, giving them a somewhat more fashionable figure. In simpler words, it works its tricks to basically make the body look more defined, and pays emphasis on your torso and backside!
Targeting the female market for centuries, women have worn foundation garments, such as corsets and brasseries, for a very long time. But as the world changed, shapewear became less of a tool used to enforce societal expectations, and more of a tool to help women love their bodies. Foundation garments have managed to create a special space in every woman’s wardrobe.
Be it for party wear, office wear or even just for a day-out with friends, shapewear is the go-to for every occasion and has many benefits. Apart from the obvious, getting an instant feminine silhouette, shapewear acts on your posture and adnominal muscles ; giving you a straighter walk. Further, the Lycra or silicone helps in reducing inches and is said to promote weight loss too! This in turn sky rockets one’s confidence and self-esteem.
The innumerable plus points for owning shapewear has given rise to its demand in the market, and the race for the best-selling shapewear has some big competitors.
From “Spanx” ruling the shapewear industry, to new-age foundation garment moguls like +Body by Julia Haart and Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS; who are collaborating with luxury brands- making the product more desirable!
It is truly the age of shapewear, and not long before this craze hits the Indian market too!
