There are some stories that are timeless and evergreen – they make you laugh no matter how many times you watch them. And 1994 classic comedy ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ is one of them – which has now also been adapted into a play by theatre group Naya Ustaad.
The play, titled Tribute: Andaz Apna Apna is directed by Swati Mishra and Kartik Ojha. It is directly adapted from the film, and the story revolves around Amar and Prem, who are big-time slackers from middle-class families and want to make a name in the world without working too hard – directed by Arunansh and Anushka Shokeen. Though the storyline is identical, what makes the play different is the fact that it has more vibrant expressions and ambient lighting. Director Arunansh said about the play –
It is one of the classics which is close to every theatre artist because its one of those films in which extensive focus was given to each and every character and its development and hence bringing this to the stage was a dream. Another major reason to bring this to the stage was because the film has completed its 25 years this year. It was a challenging task to justify these iconic characters especially on a live medium because in a film you have the option of re-takes but in theatre it has to go in shot.
Since it’s raining remakes in Bollywood, could a remake for Andaz Apna Apna be on the cards soon too? Tell us what you think!
