Akshay Kumar turns 52, and on the occasion of his birthday, the actor took to social media to announce his next film. The film will be a historical drama based on the life of the Maratha warrior king Prithviraj Chauhan, whose role will be essayed by the actor.
Akshay Kumar said, “It is truly an honour that I will be playing the role of one of the most fearless and courageous kings of India, Prithviraj Chauhan. As a nation, we should always celebrate our heroes and immortalize what they did to propagate the values that Indians lived by. Prithviraj is our attempt to bring to light his valour and daredevilry. Prithviraj was the only person standing in front of a merciless nemesis and the bravery he showed, made him a true Indian hero, an inspiration for generations and a legend. So this announcement coming on my birthday has indeed made it more special for me.”
The film is coincidentally the first historical drama ever announced by YRF. Prithviraj will be directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who has previously helmed projects such as Chanakya, the television series. The film is slated to release on Diwali 2020. This will be the first time that Akshay Kumar will be releasing a film both on Eid and Diwali 2020, festivals that usually are vied for release dates by the Khans.
