Akshay Kumar Gives Up His Canadian Passport, Applies For An Indian One

The actor may have worked in several films with strong social messages, given many years of great cinema for Indian audiences, but was always trolled by one question – that around his citizenship. Netizens have trolled the actor incessantly on possessing a Canadian passport and not having an Indian citizenship. At a recently held leadership summit, the actor finally spoke up about the issue and how he plans to address it by applying for an Indian passport.

Akshay Kumar said that he had considered shifting to Canada at a time when he had 14 flop films in a row.

There was a time when I had 14 flops in a row and I was wondering what to do. One of my closest friends who stays in Canada told me ‘come here and we will work together’. I started the process to get a Canadian passport because I felt my career was finished and I won’t get more work here. But my 15th film worked and I never looked back. I never thought of changing my passport.

As for what he plans to do about it, the actor says, “I have now applied for the passport. I am an Indian and it hurts me that I am asked to prove that every time. My wife, my children are Indian. I pay my taxes here and my life is here.”

On the work front, the actor will be seen in the comedy entertainer ‘Good Newwz’ slated to hit theatres on December 27, 2019.
