We don’t know how good or bad she’s been all year, but actress Alia Bhatt has definitely had a great 2019. And looking at how she’s ending it, it seems she’s mostly been good. From starting the year with India’s Oscar entry ‘Gully Boy’, to starting her very own YouTube channel, with over a million followers, to collaborating with father Mahesh Bhatt for the first time ever – Alia Bhatt has come a long way, this year.
That’s not all – Alia Bhatt took to her Instagram handle to share what ‘Santa’ got her for Christmas, and it was the ‘Gangubai’ title, given to her by her dream-director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, someone she had wanted to work with since she was nine years old. Yes, Alia had auditioned for a role in the filmmaker’s 2005 drama, Black – starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji.
It was then reported that Alia would be paired opposite Salman Khan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshallah. “Dream with your eyes wide open they say & I did. Sanjay Sir and Salman Khan are magical together & I can’t wait to join them on this beautiful journey called Inshallah”, the actress had shared – the film, however, didn’t see the light of the day.
And now, Alia is all set to be the leading lady in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film, Gangubai Kathiawadi. The film revolves around the story of Gangubai Kothewali, a brothel owner in the area of Kamathipura, which is Mumbai’s red light district. The film is being adapted from the book by S Husain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens Of Mumbai. The film was earlier, reportedly, offered to Priyanka Chopra, but the actress could not give her nod to the project as she was busy with other films.
Gangubai Kathiawadi will release on September 11, 2020.
