Just In: Bollywood Legend Amitabh Bachchan Selected For Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Last seen in the film ‘Badla’, the actor is currently playing host to millions of aspiring ‘crorepatis’ on the superhit quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. News has just arrived that Amitabh Bachchan has been officially selected for the Dadasaheb Phalke award. Union Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted the news –

“The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahebPhalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest Congratulations to him,” wrote Prakash Javadekar in his tweet.

The Dadasaheb Phalke award is the highest award in Indian cinema, given for outstanding contribution to the growth of Indian cinema. It was introduced in 1969, and is given in memory of Dadasaheb Phalke, one of the founding fathers and a visionary of Indian cinema. It is given annually at the National Awards ceremony. Previous recipients of the award from the Hindi film industry include Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor, Gulzar, Pran, Shyam Benegal, and Yash Chopra.
