Recently, the ‘Marjaavaan’ co-stars, Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh, gave us a glimpse into what their upcoming film is like. The trailer reminded us of their previous film together, ‘Ek Villian’ and felt like a contemporary take on the Indian mythology, Ramayan. When asked whether their characters are indeed inspired by Rama and Ravana respectively, here’s what the actors said.
Sidharth Malhotra said, “Well, if you talk on two different extremes then definitely there is a take on one being skewed to slightly positive and another being a negative character. But yeh sab aap reference ki baat kar rahe hai kyuki Ravana hai yaha pe. An important event occurs in the movie Ravana ko lekar joh ek culture hai ek pratha hoti hai. Bhari bharkam dialogues bhi hai.”
Director Milap Zaveri said, “Mera manna hai ki har kisi ke zindagi main koi Rama hai koi Ravana hai. You know there is good and evil in everyone so in this film that is a subtext of good vs evil. Raghu his name in the film is one of the names of Lord Rama, so it has happened organically. It is not a mythological tale. The film is not that but a ‘masala’ entertainer. Dussera plays an important part in the film like Ravana.”
Riteish Deshmukh said, “I agree to what Milap and Sidharth said. Just to add to the fact that it’s about a man fighting for his love and going all out. That’s what Rama did and that’s what Raghu is doing.”
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, and Krishan Kumar along with Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikhil Advani, Marjaavaan is slated to release on 8 November.
