Bollywood Slams Show Over Derogatory Comment On Madhuri Dixit Nene
One of the most popular American sitcom shows, ‘The Big Band Theory’ that ended its run after 12 long years has now ended up in legal trouble. The show has made it to the news after a political analyst filed a lawsuit against the streaming platform Netflix for using derogatory terms for actor Madhuri Dixit Nene.
As per the legal notice, analyst Mithun Vijay Kumar wants the streaming platform to remove the part where Kunal Nayyar’s character Raj Koothrappali and Jim Parsons’s character Sheldon Cooper compare Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit.
In the scene, Sheldon calls Madhuri Dixit to be poor man’s Aishwarya Rai to which Raj Koothrappali replies “Aishwarya Rai is a goddess, by comparison, Madhuri Dixit is a leprous prostitute”.
Vijay Kumar took to his Twitter and wrote, “I was deeply disturbed by the dialogue. I found it highly derogatory and offensive towards Indian culture and women. So I asked my lawyer to send a legal notice to Netflix, requesting that they remove the episode from their platform. It’s important to hold media companies accountable for the content they distribute, and I hope that @NetflixIndia will take this matter seriously.”
Days after this incident B’town celebrities like Jaya Bachchan, Dia Mirza, Flora Saini and Urmila Matondkar came together in support of Madhuri Dixit Nene and condemned the disrespectful remark on the actor.
In an interview Jaya Bachchan said, “Is this guy (Kunal Nayyar) insane? Badi gandi zubaan hai (he is very uncouth). He should be sent to the mental asylum. His family should be asked what they think of this comment.”
Dia Mirza also talked about the same and described the remark to be “disrespectful and distasteful.”
The ‘Tehzeeb’ actor, Urmila Matondkar also supported the actor and called the comment objectionable and cheap mentality’.
