After playing multiple emotionally charged characters like ‘Rani Padmini’ in ‘Padmavat’ or ‘Mastani’ in ‘Bajirao Mastani’ on screen, Deepika’s upcoming film, ‘Chhapaak’ also had her take up the challenging role of an acid attack survivor. But now as she is all set to play the role of Former Cricket Captain Kapil Dev’s wife Romi – opposite her husband Ranveer Singh, who will be seen portraying Kapil Dev – Deepika says she is experiencing some “lighter moments”.
Honestly speaking, I’ve always enjoyed playing characters that take a lot out of me, emotionally. Even in ’83, there are extreme highs and lows that Romi also goes through in the journey towards Indian cricket team creating history by winning the world cup. But the film also explores lighter moments between Romi and Kapil Dev. So, in that sense, you can say that it has been a lighter part emotionally.
As mentioned by the actress herself, ’83 is not exactly light, as it chronicles Team India’s journey towards the 1983 Cricket World Cup – but it does have its ‘light moments’. Deepika will next be seen in Meghna Gulzar’s Chhapaak, followed by Kabir Khan’s ’83, in which she will be playing the on-screen wife of her real-life husband, Ranveer Singh.
