Indian Performing Right Society Distributes Over 20 Crores To Members

The Indian Performing Right Society completed its annual royalty distribution. Renowned Artists like Anu Malik, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Lalit Pandit, Jatin Pandit graced the occasion, amongst others, along with Javed Akhtar, who is also the Chairman of IPRS. Read through.

The Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) is India’s only Government recognised copyright society. The association is tasked with administering rights in musical compositions and lyrics associated with music on behalf of the lyricists and composers.

Javed Akhtar distributed more than Rs 20 Crores to its author, composer and publisher owner members at the event. IPRS also distributed royalties to music composers & classical artistes and legends such as, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma and Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, both of whom were instrumental the amendment of the Copyright Act along with Javed Akhtar in 2012.

The Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) was incorporated in the 1960’s as a copyright royalty collection body, and is authorised to conduct the copyright business of issuing and granting licenses in respect of musical works and associated literary works (lyrics) in India.
