In a box office clash, Kartik Aaryan’s entertainer ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ has won over Arjun Kapoor’s period-drama ‘Panipat’ by collecting around Rs 34 crore over three days, compared to the latter’s Rs 18 crore.
Pati Patni Aur Woh opened to Rs 9.10 crore and went on to make Rs 12.33 crore and Rs 14.51 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively. On Monday, it earned Rs 5.70 crore. The total collection of the film till now totals to Rs 41.64 crore.
“Pati Patni Aur Woh is excellent on day one. This, despite competing with another biggie (Panipat), which resulted in screens/shows getting divided,” Taran Adarsh had tweeted earlier, adding that the Mudassar Aziz directed comedy drama is Kartik Aaryan’s biggest opener till date, beating not just Luka Chuppi (Rs. 32.09 crore) but also Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 (Rs 21.54 crore), Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (Rs 25.83 crore) and Pyaar Ka Punchnama (Rs 3.23 crore).
Panipat, based on The Third Battle of Panipat, released on December 6 and witnessed a decent start, the film minted Rs 4.12 crore on Friday. The weekend worked well, the film made Rs 5.78 crore on Saturday and Rs 7.78 crore on Sunday, bringing a total of Rs 17.78 crore. The multi-starrer is expected to make Rs 5 crore on Monday.
The film, however, received backlash from locals in Rajasthan, who protested against it for misrepresentation of Jats of the region. Tourism minister Vishvendra Singh of Rajasthan government, former Maharaja of Bharatpur, lodged a protest regarding the way the character of Jat Maharaj Surajmal has been filmed.
