This Is Why Superstar Rajinikanth Wants To Play The Role Of A Transgender

Rajinikanth will be seen in the role of a cop after a hiatus of 25 years. He had last played the role of a cop in ‘Pandian’ in 1992, and now ‘Darbar’ will break that gap. But why did he not do this earlier? As the actor revealed at a press conference, he just didn’t like the seriousness that came with the role of a cop.

“I don’t like the character of a cop. Because duty… serious action. I like to do films that are entertaining with easy-going characters. A cop is more serious, going behind some criminal. So I actually used to avoid,” said Rajinikanth about playing a cop. So what was different about A.R. Murugadoss’ film that made him say yes? “Murugadoss came with a very good subject. John Johnny Janardhan was also made in Hindi later. That character became very famous in the South. It is a different character from any cop that you have seen. I am actually a bad cop!” added Rajinikanth.

The actor has also completed nearly half a decade of being in the industry. Is there some genre that he still wishes to explore? “Actually I have explored everything! I have done 160 films in 45 years. Sab karra hai mainey. Maybe a transgender?” laughed Rajinikanth. Suniel Shetty, who also plays a pivotal role in the film, said that the only role that Rajinikanth can play in the future would be that of himself. He said, “The only role that Rajini sir can play in the future, that he hasn’t played till now, is his biopic where he can play his childhood till today.”

The actor also spoke about the actor he respects the most in the industry – Amitabh Bachchan. He shared a nugget of wisdom that the latter had shared, saying, “Rajini after 60 specially, you should be very careful. Three things you should do – first, exercise regularly. Don’t miss exercise. Second, be busy. Do whatever you want, whatever people say don’t bother about that. After everything just get out of the house. Third one, don’t enter politics. Two things I followed, third thing I couldn’t follow because of the circumstances.”

Darbar is slated for a January 10, 2020 release. It will clash with Deepika Padukone’s Chhapak and Ajay Devgn-Kajol starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior.
