Ranu Mondal came under the spotlight after she was heard singing Lata Mangeshkar’s ‘Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai’ on a railway platform in Kolkata. Soon after which, the lady was called to Mumbai by singer Himesh Reshammiya who recorded a song with her. Now, she might get a film following her journey!
Reportedly, National Award-winning actress Sudipta Chakraborty has been approached to essay the role of the singer in the biopic titled Platform Singer Ranu Mondal. The film will narrate Mondal’s journey from singing at the Ranaghat railway station to singing alongside Himesh Reshammiya.
Sudipta Chakraborty has confirmed the development. “Yes, I have been offered the film. However, I am yet to receive a script. I will decide if I want to play the character only after reading the script,” she said.
As Ranu Mondal’s perfect rendition went viral, the nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar was not amused with the comparisons, she expressed her reservations and was quoted as saying, “If anyone gets benefited from my name and work then I feel fortunate”.
“Be original”, she cautioned the rising Ranu Mandal. Lata Mangeshkar added “sing the evergreen songs by me and my colleagues. But after a point, the singer must seek and find his or her own song. If Asha had not insisted on singing in her own style she would have remained in my shadow forever. She is the biggest example of how far individuality can take one’s talent to.”
