While star kids Ananya Panday, Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor have already made their Bollywood entry, it is now time for Sanjay Kapoor’s daughter Shanaya to join the bandwagon. She, unlike her contemporaries, however, is debuting behind the camera.

19-year-old Shanaya Kapoor is set to take on the role of an Assistant Director for the upcoming Gunjan Saxena biopic – in which her cousin Janhvi Kapoor will be starring. She has flown to Lucknow to assist first-time director Sharan Sharma – who will be at the helm of the biopic based on Gunjan Saxena’s life. Gunjan Saxena was among the first female helicopter pilots, and the first woman to be awarded the prestigious Shaurya Chakra for evacuating soldiers during the Kargil war of 1999.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, ‘the team will be shooting in Lucknow for the next two weeks before moving to other locations’.

While Shanaya wanted to enter the industry as an actress, her parents suggested she experiences what it’s like being behind the scenes, first.
Shanaya said that though her parents suggested she go to film school, she decided that hands-on experience on the sets would teach her more than formal education in acting and filmmaking. She said that being an assistant director was the best experience of her life. After being an assistant director, I realised how much work goes into making a film. I learnt so much about camera lenses, close-up shots, how you get into the character, how you shoot an angry scene, what are the things that actors do on set. All this just made me more confident of what I wanted to do, she told the news agency.
