The actress had revealed on a popular talk show that she suffered from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition which leads to irregular hormones and weight gain. Sara Ali Khan, in a recent interview, opened up about her weight and how she worked towards losing it. It was a journey that began when she was studying in New York.
I weighed 96kg and had a year to go before I graduated. The transition from pizza to salad and from lethargy to cardio is how I kick-started my fitness journey. I simply started eating healthy and began working out when in New York.
There were a plethora of choices that Sara Ali Khan had to shed the excess kilos, as she revealed. From ‘functional training’ to boxing and cycling, New York had lots of exciting things to offer. Since the overweight bit had to be shed before she could tone up her muscles, it was important to do intensive cardio to lose the weight. Sara said-
Because I was so overweight at the start, it was more about cardio-heavy workouts like walking, cycling and hitting the treadmill—so that I could lose the weight before entering the intermediate forms of exercise.
Sara Ali Khan has already been seen on screen in two films, Simmba and Kedarnath. How does the actress manage to keep up her fitness in spite of her busy schedule? She does a combination of various things, as she revealed.
A combination of functional training, Pilates, boxing and cardio. I like to change things up, but ensure that I work out for an hour and a half every single day—except on Sunday, because that’s my day to chill.
Sara Ali Khan is working with Sonu Ke Teetu Ki Sweety actor Kartik Aaryan in Aaj Kal, the sequel to Imtiaz Ali’s previous film Love Aaj Kal. Sara Ali Khan is also starring in the Coolie No.1 remake alongside Kalank actor Varun Dhawan.
