Two girls – a tomboy, a diva; one stud, and a surreal college life. Sounds like a ‘Student Of The Year’ sequel? We don’t think so! It’s more like a throwback to the 90’s super-hit love story, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ – samajh gaye?
Toward the end of 2018, filmmaker Karan Johar had said at a media interaction that if there were to be a sequel to his first film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he would cast Alia, Janhvi, and Ranbir in it. Cut to 2019 – Johar released the trailer of his next film that didn’t star the trio he had mentioned earlier. Instead it had Tiger Shroff, and two debutantes Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria.
At the trailer release event, the cast of Student Of The Year 2, along with Director Punit D Malhotra and Producer Karan Johar got together to answer the many questions the media had to pose.
Tiger Shroff, on being asked about his reaction on being addressed as ‘princess’, said,”I have got used to it. From my childhood days, my sister and I used to fight a lot. My sister used to bully me in these ways. It’s not the first time.”
He also answered the million dollar question – of being compared to the first edition of Student Of The Year.
I don’t want to compare, you will have the flavours of Student of the year 1, definitely. To add to that, I’ve done my best to bring in what people know me for. So there is a little bit of ‘tiger-ism’ in my character as well.
He further added-
The sports that we have are very different. We are introducing Kabaddi for the first time on celluloid in Bollywood. So that’s a very interesting world.
Tara Sutaria, who sings really well, was compared to Alia Bhatt when it comes to the additional talent.
I don’t think I can compete, I think she sings beautifully in Hindi. And I would love to sing with her one day though!
Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday also spoke about the fact that this is the trailer launch of their first film. Tara spoke-
Honestly, Karan this moment feels surreal. The last year has been surreal. This has been the best day of my life, and Thank you so much Karan.
Ananya Panday said –
It feels like a dream. I have seen so many interviews of other people at trailer launches, and I can’t imagine what it’s like.
Karan Johar also revealed why he chose to remake the retro super-hit ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ for the second instalment in the Student Of The Year franchise.
If you remember, Student Of The Year too had ‘Disco Deewane’ as the remake. It was a very popular song of the 80’s which I loved, and that’s why I said to Punit that we should inculcate a song which has a retro feeling in it. And my favourite song ever is ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. Every SOTY will have a retro song.
