The first teaser of Anurag Kashyap’s latest offering ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ has just released, and the two ‘shooter dadis’ Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar are so fiercely independent that it gets to you. The teaser begins with a voice over that immediately gets your attention; saying that it’s not a story that your grandmother would tell you, rather, a story of your grandmother!
Saand Ki Aankh, which literally translates to bull’s eye, is based on the real sharp shooter women, Urvashi and Prakashi Tomar, who hail from Uttar Pradesh. The octogenarian ladies, who are aged 82 and 87 respectively, are also among the oldest sharp shooters in the world. Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar had shared a series of stills as a buildup to the teaser release. As she said in the caption, sometimes sisterhood is all that you need to have a happy life at 65!
The teaser, too, takes the viewer through the entire spectrum of emotions that the Tomar sisters faced during their lives. From the time they began training at the age of 50, to when they broke away from the shackles of patriarchy and rebelled against society to do what they wanted and what they loved – the teaser shows all this and more. In a humorous dialogue exchange with the two sisters’ coach, played by Vineet Kumar Singh, he makes a reference to Mahabharata and asks them to only focus on the fish’s eye while shooting. To this, Taapsee Pannu replies, “Manne machli ki aankh na dikha, manne to dikhe hai saand ki aankh.”
