One of the many good original Indian sitcoms – this show was aired on DD National in the early 90’s. The story revolved around the Diwan family, just another regular Indian family with three generations of family members living together and the commotion that ensues. Actors such as Shekhar Suman, Sushma Seth, Bhavna Balsavar, Urvashi Dholakia, and Farida Jalal were on board this project – and the show itself was a laughter riot and highly relatable!

2. Shanti

Another interesting series that Doordashan broadcasted in the golden days of the 90’s, Shanti was the reason Mandira Bedi became a household name. Mandira played a journalist, who is signed on to write the biographies of two well-known celebrities – and the drama that ensues. Shanti was a strong, bold woman who stood by the decisions she took- something we need to learn from her even today!

3. Shrimaan Shrimati

Another classic Hindi TV show, the epic situational comedy and hilarious comic timing made this show a must watch! Jatin Kanakia as Keshav Kulkarni (aka Keshu), Reema Lagoo as Kokila Kulkarni (aka Koki), and Archana Puran Singh as Prema Singh (aka Prema ji) topped the charts of much-loved television characters for a long time. Each episode was a work of art- with some good, classy, and clean comedy!

Throwback. But know not which year.

This soap opera with Mahesh Bhatt at the Director’s chair and Shobha De at the scriptwriter’s helm was aired way back in 1995. It tells us the story of Svetlana, who is a pampered mistress of a business tycoon – and chaos ensues when he dies intestate leaving behind a massive wealth to be inherited by no one in particular. The show completed 500 episodes and left behind a legacy when it ended.

5. Tu Tu Main Main

The classic debate between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law; this television show was basically representative of the favourite habit of all us Indians, i.e. to blame each other for faults that were entirely our own. Hilarious roles and characters, made even more relatable by the stellar comedic performances by Reema Lagoo as Devaki Verma and Supriya Pilgaonkar as Radha Verma.
