6 Super Tech-Advance Dresses that Had their Fashion Moment
Technology is taking over the world. We spend most of our time on our laptops or our phones. In short, we are surrounded by it 24*7. While we’re advancing in terms of gadgets, the fashion industry is also taking a step ahead in including tech in dresses. Here are some tech-advance outfits that had their fashion moment:
A Dress That Glows
Claire Danes wore a pale blue Zac Posen dress made from a fibre optic woven organza at the met Gala. Reminiscent of a modern-day Cinderella, the fairytale look came alive in the dark, glowing from head to toe. This dress received the spotlight as Zac Posen teased the gown on Instagram, where his followers got to see the impressive lights working to full effect.
Optic Dress
Richard Nicoll’s spring 2015 collection was made of LED-operated fibre-optic fabric, and one dress that caught every eye at the runway was this ready to wear fringe dress made with white glowing fibre. Oh, man! This is one dress that you would definitely like to have in your wardrobe.
3D Printed Lady in Black
New York designer Michael Schmidt and architect Francis Bitonti created a 3D-printed dress for burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese. The floor-length nylon gown was made using selective laser sintering (SLS), where the material was built up in layers from plastic powder fused with a laser. This plastic dress is definitely our solution towards sustainable dresses in future.
Twinkle Fairy Dress
Georgina Chapman had an actual fashion moment on the steps of the Met Gala when she donned twinkly lights and all. The designers partnered with IBM’s Watson to create a “cognitive dress” that analyzed tweets for the emotion of the fans watching on social media and lit up embedded LED lights in corresponding colours. Again, this is no doubt one technology advanced dress that a celebrity wore on the red carpet to date!
Another Cinderella Story
Zendaya and her stylist, Law Roach, took extra to the next level at the 2019 Met Gala—and it was utterly enchanting. The two hit the carpet where Zendaya decked out in a Cinderella gown (custom by Tommy Hilfiger), and Roach dressed as her fairy godmother. With a few waves of his wand and a couple of wisps of smoke, the actress’s gown lit up like a very chic Christmas tree. Well, she even topped her dress with glass footwear.
The Spider Dress
Dutch designer Anouk Wipprecht came up with the perfect costume for social distancing. In her latest creation, the Spider Dress, revealed in July 2021, Wipprecht used the help of technology to detect and alert when a person enters the wearer’s personal space. The dress measures the intimate space, the private space, the social space and the public space of the wearer. Furthermore, the dress enforces social distancing around the wearer with the help of bone-like tentacles with sensors surrounding the body. Isn’t this the perfect dress for this season?
