In the age of reboots and sequels and prequels, one can’t be blamed for feeling that one of the most treasured TV shows from our past, F.R.I.E.N.D.S will one day be picked up with a quirky new take. Unfortunately or luckily F.R.I.E.N.D.S will never get that treatment!
According to reports, creators of the show Marta Kauffman and David Crane ruled out the possibility of a F.R.I.E.N.D.S reboot when they spoke on the show’s 25th anniversary panel at the Tribeca TV Festival. The duo confirmed they’d never ever take another swing on the show, which ended in 2004. Kauffman was quoted saying, “We will not be doing a reunion show; we will not be doing a reboot”.

Marta Kauffman went on to explain their decision, saying that the show was always supposed to be about a time in life when friends become family, but life eventually changes and your family is your family. Well, that’s a pretty good reason to not pick up 15 years later to find out where Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe and Joey are now. And to make sure we’re still not hoping for a reboot, David Crane emphasized that the particular option never appealed to the as he said, “It’s not going to beat what we did”.

As much as we would have loved a reboot, a part of us is glad that F.R.I.E.N.D.S will continue to exist in its own perfect little time capsule. It would be truly impossible to recreate this kind of magic again and we don’t want to lose that.
