When Anna and Elsa are here, others have to ‘let the box office go’. The two sisters and the gang broke the box office record for the five-day holiday weekend in the U.S., raking in $124 million. That gives the movie the highest Thanksgiving weekend total of all time, toppling previous holder The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’s $110 million.
From Friday to Sunday alone, the Arendellians captured a massive $85 million in the U.S., thus surpassing Incredibles 2 and Lion King’s record of biggest non-opening weekend for an animated film. If Frozen 2 keeps up this rate of shattering records at the box office, it’ll race past the $1 billion mark, especially when you have already gathered $451 million internationally. Earlier, Frozen had the record for a Thanksgiving opening weekend in 2013 and now Frozen 2 has the record for a Thanksgiving weekend, opening or otherwise.
If you’re keen on skating over to the cinema for sisterly love, stunning ice animation and Olaf shenanigans, Frozen 2 is indeed your perfect holiday heart-warming viewing.
