‘Frozen 2’ Breaks Record For The Best Opening For An Animated Movie Globally

Anna and Elsa’s grand return has frozen the box office!

Frozen 2 had an opening weekend to remember, with $127 million tickets sold in the U.S. from just Friday to Sunday. Outside the U.S., internationally, the film sold $223 million in tickets, contributing to an international debut of $350.2 million.

The opening of Frozen 2 buried several records; the animated movie is the largest opening for any Walt Disney Animation Studios release. Further Frozen 2 also marks the best opening to date for an animated feature on the global stage.

The big start for Frozen 2 is a reflection of its 2013 predecessor’s success, and the fan hype for a long-awaited sequel. Frozen was popular enough when it released widely during the Thanksgiving weekend that year, but its three-day start of $67.4 million is only slightly more than half of Frozen 2‘s initial take in the U.S.
