After almost a decade of being the highest-grossing film ever, Avatar’s rule came to an end as Avengers: Endgame dethroned the James Cameron’s movie to become the biggest film of all time. Marvel boss Kevin Feige made it official at the studio’s Comic-Con panel in San Diego on July 21.
Avengers: Endgame crossed Avatar’s Rs. 19,210 cr. global box office collection to top the chart. This feat was achieved by the Endgame after its collections got a boost following a re-release of the film on June 28 that featured a Hulk sequence and a Stan Lee tribute. It also had post-credits scene featuring characters from Spider-Man: Far From Home. James Cameron’s Avatar 2 is scheduled to release on December 17, 2021 and it remains to be seen if Endgame can defend its title.
However, Marvel had other surprises in store for its fans as well. At the ongoing comic con, the studio revealed the Phase-4 of MCU that includes films and shows that are a perfect mix of sequels of favourite characters with a few new introductions. The biggest announcement is that of the fourth movie in Thor series titled ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ where Natalie Portman will be back as Jane Foster and would take up the mantle of Thor or goddess of thunder and wield Mjolnir. The next big one is ‘The Eternals’ that will star Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek as Ikaris, Kingo, Thena and Ajak respectively. Marvel confirmed Scarlett Johansson, who has been playing a side role for a decade now, will finally lead the cast in ‘Black Widow’, while Benedict Cumberbatch will be joined by Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda in the ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel.
