It’s three time Oscar Nominee Joaquin Phoenix, whose incredible portrayal of the iconic Batman villain is a redesign of the character who looks like a cocktail of the previous cinematic ‘Jokers’. Heath Ledger’s unnerving smirk, Cesar Romero’s purple suit and John Wayne Gacy’s make-up are trademarks of Phoenix’s frightening modern look. Joker director Todd Philips revealed the first camera test for Phoenix in character as Batman’s arch nemesis, Arthur Fleck, a few days ago and the internet can’t seem to get enough of it.
Phoenix’s character was spotted in all his evil glory and in full gear as the Clown prince of Crime, at a New York subway station, giving fans of the villain a good look at his new avatar.
Phoenix is the latest actor to take on the iconic role which was made popular by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger in the past, though Jared Leto’s portrayal in the Suicide Squad was no laughing matter. The film is being directed by Todd Philips and is said to be inspired by Martin Scorsese’s ‘King of Comedy’. The filmmaker is also executive producer on the project. The film also stars Robert De Niro as a talk show host who is instrumental in driving Phoenix’s character to the dark side. The Joker is slated to release in October 2019 and we certainly can’t wait.
