Kareena Kapoor Khan Addresses Boycott Culture: “Agar Films Nahi Hogi Toh Entertainment Kaisa Hoga”
In the recent past, cancel culture has entered the glossary of the film business. Films like ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ and ‘Brahmastra’ had to face the music of the cancel culture and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’ is the latest film to join the list as #BoycottPathaan is trending across social media platforms.
Recently during an event in Kolkata, Kareena Kapoor Khan reacted to the boycott trend and cancel culture where she said, “I don’t agree with it at all.”
She further said, “If that happens, how will we entertain, how will you have the joy and happiness in your life, which, I think everybody needs. Cinema and films are promising, which we have always done, which films have always done. Agar films nahi hogi toh entertainment kaisa hoga.”
Earlier when Kareena’s film ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was facing the boycott calls, she addressed the issue and said, “The fact is that they shouldn’t boycott this film, it’s such a beautiful film. And I want people to see me and Aamir (Khan) on screen. We’ve waited so long. So, please don’t boycott this film, because it’s actually like boycotting good cinema.”
Shah Rukh Khan’s spy thriller film ‘Pathaan’ that will mark his comeback is facing boycott calls on Twitter due to the film’s song ‘Besharam Rang’.
While talking about the cancel culture and negativity on social media SRK said, “The collective narratives of our times are shaped by social media. Contrary to the belief that the spread of social media will affect cinema negatively, I believe cinema has an even more important role to play now. Social media is often driven by a certain narrowness of view that limits human nature to its baser self. And its somewhere that negativity increases social media consumption and thereby increases its commercial value as well. Such pursuits enclose the collective narrative making it divisive and destructive.”
The film starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham will hit theaters on January 25th.
