Madhuri Dixit On ‘Maja Ma’, Her Character In The Film, Women Representation In The Industry & More
Madhuri Dixit Nene, Ritwik Bhomik, Barkha Singh and Sristhi Shrivastava talk about their latest film on Amazon Prime Video titled ‘Maja Ma’, what drew them to their respective characters, women representation in the industry, what has changed in the industry over the years and more, in a recent interview with GOODTiMES’ Puja Talwar.
The story of ‘Maja Ma’ follows Pallavi Patel (played by Madhuri Dixit), a devoted housewife and a doting mother who is faced with buried truths from her past. The narrative revolves around how she embraces certain realities, pivotal to her personality and sense of self, and its impact on her near and dear ones. The film also stars Ritwik Bhomik, Barkha Singh, Sristhi Shrivastava, Gajraj Rao, Sheeba Chadha and Rajit Kapoor.
When asked about what prompted her to say ‘yes’ to the script and her role as Pallavi, Madhuri said, “It’s the story of Pallvi Patel, a wife and a doting mother. She is a very important part of the community where she works for the women and her husband also. The character is very well thought of. It’s also set in the background of the festive season.”
Talking about what attracted her towards Pallavi (her role), the actress said, “What attracted me towards this character was her resilience, she is strong and has strength and i just couldn’t say no to this character. We both are very strong women.”
Madhuri also opened up about women representation in the industry and how women are more accepting compared to men. Talking on the same topic she said, “They say girls mature faster than boys. Also, I think there are a lot of constraints in terms of casting but it’s a great time for women. The scripts that are being written are great. Biopics are being made on women and I think these ideas are being written for women and it’s such a wonderful phase. Kudos to the writers, I wish more writers come in to write such scripts.”
The actress also talked about the industry and how things have changed over the years. She admits that things are more organised now compared to the 80s and 90s. She stated, “The industry was very disorganised but now it’s organised and we even have readings. We never knew what readings were. Nobody was really ready with the scripts. From your look to what you’ll look like, a lot of it is decided way before shooting these days. We used to work in 5-6 films at the same time but now it has changed.”
Barkha Singh, Ritwik Bhomik and Sristhi Shrivastava talk about their respective roles, what prompted them to come onboard this project and more. They also answer some fun rapid-fire questions before concluding the interview.
