Ponniyin Selvan Wouldn’t Exist If Bahubali Wasn’t Made In 2 Parts
After the success of Ponniyin Selvan 1, the sequel of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus film is all set for its grand release. The pre-release event of the film starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kamal Hassan and Shobhita Dhulipala took place in Hyderabad on April 23rd in which director Mani Ratnam showered praises on RRR director – SS Rajamouli.
During the promotional event of Ponniyin Selvan 2, Mani Ratnam credited SS Rajamouli for making it possible for Ponniyin Selvan to get released in two parts. He said, “I’d like to thank Subaskaran (producer) sir first. Sir, because of you, Ponniyin Selvan was possible. I’ve said this before and I’m saying this again. I want to thank Rajamouli. If Baahubali was not made. And not made in two parts Ponniyin Selvan would not have been made. So we owe him a big thanks,.”

He went ahead and said, “I’ve called Rajamouli, met him and told him this. And I want to say here that it created the path for me to be able to mount Ponniyin Selvan in two parts.
It gave confidence to the entire industry to do historical (projects), and he opened a huge passage for a lot of Indian history to be converted into films.”

For the uninitiated, Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan is a two part film based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s iconic novel ‘Raja Raja Chozhan’. The first part of the film was released on September 30th last year and the sequel is set to hit the theatres on April 28th.
