‘Antakshari’ To ‘Just Mohabbat’: 10 TV Shows Of The 90’s We Miss So Much, It Hurts

Watching TV in the 90’s was a family affair, mostly during dinner time on weekdays, and definitely during breakfast on Sunday morning. We’d obviously know the airing schedule by heart, because there was not much scope of catching a rerun of a missed episode, since that would normally play while we were away in school/college/office.

The cliched ‘fights over the TV remote’ would happen in two people of a household wanted to watch different shows running on different channels at the same time; these, however, were resolved by switching channels during ad breaks. And if you’re not getting nostalgic already, then here’s a list of TV shows that made growing up in the 90’s truly special.

1. Zee Horror Show (1993)

We know you hummed the title track even before it began.

2. Antakshari (1993)

Remember how irritated Anu Kapoor would appear every time someone couldn’t guess a song, despite all his hints?

3. Dekh Bhai Dekh (1993)

You’ve got to admit, the Diwan family had begun feeling like an extension of our own.

4. Tara (1993)

Tara taught us to be a feminist even when before we knew what feminism was.

5. Banegi Apni Baat (1993)

One of the first Indian shows that gave us friendship goals.

6. Shrimaan Shrimati (1994)

When regular husband-wife banters became a household favourite.

7. Hum Paanch (1995)

Five sisters, a talking photo, a loving step-mother and a super-exhausted father – Hum Paanch was a laughter riot we miss oh, so much.

8. Aahat (1995)

A distraction from everyone’s favourite Zee Horror Show – this one managed to spook many a viewer, too.

9. Just Mohabbat (1996)

The relatable journey of an adolescent boy experiencing his first crush, heartbreak and love resonated with many teenagers of the 90’s.

10. Family No.1 (1998)

Two single parents, living under one roof, eventually becoming one big happy family – Family No. 1 won hearts, and how.
