Acid and Sorbet: Sabyasachi’s New Collection Fiza Is All About Neons

Sabyasachi Mukherjee. The man has built a reputation for himself as the ‘ultimate’. The courtier designs dreams. A dream that every bride wants to make her own. ‘Fiza’, ‘a soft breeze’, perhaps referring to the freshness, the romanticism that the season brings along with itself, the Bengali man has aptly named his collection.

Organdy saris on acid brights that narrate a tale of opulence, Sabyasachi’s ‘yellow’ is the colour of magnificence. If you want to feel nothing less than a summer goddess, know ‘Fiza’ is where sumptuousness meets traditionalism. Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s royal-esque, his flair for whimsy is splattered all over his spring summer ’19 collection.

Sabyasachi’s ‘pink’ is a treat to one’s eyes. Relying on the humble khadi, time and time again, he said “As a bridal designer, I keep thinking, ‘What’s next?’, and I keep coming back to khadi. For me, it is the equivalent of wellness, and nothing can be more luxurious than that. When I look back at the last 20 years, my khadi bridal lehengas are what I am most proud of. Combined with Indian jewellery and flowers, they create a very potent and timeless image.’

“Some of my most discerning customers globally have chosen to wear khadi lehangas for their wedding. Almost all of them are not on Instagram. Pity!”, Sabyasachi wisecracked!

Easy, breezy, fuss-free silhouettes, if spring could whisper and summer could talk, Sabyasachi’s sweet ‘sorbet’ would be their absolute favourite.
