A Love Letter To ‘Kaali Dal’

Dear Dal Bhukara,

I owe you my life.

It’s no coincidence we met. The feeling that the fabric of life has rippled comes from the love that ignited at first sight. You give me more than just butterflies. Utterly buttery, velvety smooth, creamy, every bite is a sensation. You take slow, extended cooking hours, you simmer over coal fire for nearly 18 hours! You taught me the virtue of patience. It’s true good things take time. My love for you never fades, it only gets stronger by the day.

Rice, roti, naan, paratha, I could chew you down even with bread. With that being said, I don’t really need anyone but you. Ever since you poured into my life, you’ve made it better. I value deliciousness. I realize true love is extremely satisfying. You don’t make empty amorous gestures, you’ve got taste. You know how to woo, to steal soul. It’s been more than a couple of years now, you still have all of me.

Do you remember all our romantic vacations where we sat aside meats but could never really get enough of each other to look around? I fondly remember all the night-ins we enjoyed together. I cherish every moment I spend with you. You’ve always been my best pal to hang out with, be it highway dhabas or fancy fine dining, even big fat Indian weddings, there’s not a single place we haven’t sat eyes-locked, flirting.

You’ve humbled me beyond words. True love makes you a better person, I don’t need proof. You’ve made me a better person. You do and always will have my heart.
