Is This The Most Iconic Barbie Yet? As Music Legend David Bowie Gets All Dolled Up

It’s half a century since Space Oddity released and David Bowie is getting all dolled up for it. Barbie has traded her signature gold locks for a mop of slick, red hair in order to mark the classic song’s 50th anniversary. The brainchild behind Barbie, toymaker Mattel has designed the doll to honour “the “pioneer of sound and vision, English singer, songwriter and actor, whose dramatic musical transformations continue to influence and inspire”.

Dubbed Barbie as Bowie, the limited edition is dressed as the legend’s ‘70s alter ego, Ziggy Stardust. No details have been spared in recreating Bowie’s look; the doll wears a stripy, metallic ‘spacesuit’ with the trademark red platform boots. It also features Ziggy’s astral sphere forehead icon and a fiery-red mullet hairstyle that Bowie made ever popular. The dolls have not been spared even the Bowie typical black nail polish and dangling, silver-star earrings.

Earlier this year, Mattel released a collection of dolls with wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs.
