Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have stepped down as “senior members” of the Royal Family. An announcement they made through the Instagram account of Sussex Royal.
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”
Their decision has come as a shock to the Her Majesty The Queen as the Queen’s office issued a response hours after that read that “Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to sort through.”
According to a source, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t consult with anyone in the Royal Family before taking this decision which has left them feeling disappointed. The Queen seems displeased and shocked by the fact that she was not consulted by the pair and did not have a say in the matter.
This decision comes as a surprise to most, but if you were following the Royal Family close enough, you would have known that ever since their marriage Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were the object of intense scrutiny and judgment by relentless tabloids. This move, even though, comes as an absolute shift in the paradigm of how the Royal Family has worked so far, it is to be noted was made keeping in mind The Duchesses’ wish to spend equal and adequate time in both her homes.
