We have officially made it to December, and you of course know what that means. 2018 is almost coming to an end! And by now, most of us must have already started reflecting on the year we are leaving behind, so why not highlight what happened in the world of Instagram as well.
We mean, Instagram has always been such an important part of our lives. We turn to this social media channel to keep ourselves up to date in regards to whatever is happening around. The platform’s global community, including us, uses IG very very often to creatively express ourselves and get closer to the people we adore and the things we love.
So let’s see all the different ways the Instagram community came together for all things trending in 2018.
We’re delighted to inform that love and kindness is a top priority for the Instagram community this year. We’ll tell you why.
Gifs, Emojis and Filters
We all use Giphy sticker in IG Stories. And which one you think you used and saw the most? Think hard. Yes, you’re right if the Heart Love Sticker by Arata is on your mind. Because that’s the most used sticker in Instagram stories this year.
Love was clearly dominating Instagram this year because even the most-used Face Filter in Stories is the Heart Eyes. Wait! It doesn’t end here. Even in Feed, the ❤ emoji was used in comments over 14 billion times. And if you want to know who used this emoji the most, we have that for you as well. It’s Disneyland Tokyo who saw the highest use of ❤ in the captions. No wonder its geo-tagged the happiest place in the world.
Even in India, love and kindness took the center stage as people mostly shared things they love. The fact that #love secured the top sport when it comes to the most used hashtag proves it. It was closely followed by #instagood and #fashion, and #lovequotes is this year’s highest growing hashtag in India. On the other hand, the game Fortnite witnessed explosive growth with #fortnite being the fastest growing hashtag globally.
Instagram has proved itself to be a powerful platform to speak and bring light to meaningful causes and hashtags are a powerful weapon in that. Millions across the globe used it in Instagram in 2018 to make their voices heard. Bollywood’s raging #metoo is this year’s top advocacy hashtag followed by #timesup in Hollywood and #marchforourlives in Washington.
Interests and Communities
Instagram is also home to countless interests and communities. And this year, ASMR was the top niche community trend of the year, while soap cutting, slime popping and makeup shaving continues its steep rise in popularity.
K-Pop clearly influenced social media this year and it is reflected by BTS ‘Army’ being the top fandom community on the platform. Even the biggest vital dance challenge of the year was born on Instagram. Yes, the Kiki Challenge. The #inmyfeelingschallenge included everyone from @theshiggyshow to @willsmith.
India’s most loved posts
#Virushka clearly dominated Instagram in India this year. Indian users showered the most love on cricketer Virat Kohli’s birthday wish post for his wife Anushka Sharma. The next most loved post is none other than Anushka Sharma breaking the internet with their PDA.
M.S Dhoni’s adorable family picture, Akshay Kumar’s post with buddy Suniel Shetty and Jacqueline Fernandez’s post celebrating friendship are the other posts that got love on Instagram.
