Brothers are our saviours, and we have been told that many times by pop-culture, we even have two festivals just for that. But in the whole hoopla around Rakhi we seem to disallow ourselves to look at sisters with the same devotion. We as women assume the responsibility of being entities who need our brothers to protect us from all evil, and while that is a noble idea to possess – what about a duo of sisters? A duo who save each other relentlessly, have each other’s backs, have no holidays set aside for them but keep at protecting each other because the bond between two sisters is a twofer – one with immense clashes and a more powerful love!
So this Rakhi we talk about sisters. Sisters who you should tie a band or a blingy bracelet around because they are worth all that and more! Here’s why!
1. They Are Your First BFFs

25 years ago today, I was just moseying along, minding my own business, when my life changed forever. Alia, Aloo, Bob – My friend, my companion, my personal defence lawyer, my most tireless cheerleader, my paranoid caretaker, witness to all my highs and lows, partner in random midnight hysterics and co-cat parent – I’m so lucky to have you as my sister and I’m so proud of the kind and nurturing soul you have grown to be. Thank you for being you. Happy Birthday my beautiful girl. P.S. I love you so much it hurts.
You guys instantly hit on very well. We mean, of course you did, they were that friend who was always available for random outings, movie watching, late-night munching and every night was sleepover night! They are the first people you talk to when you fight with your parents, and the first when you fight with your boyfriend. They encompass a place in your life which is full of togetherness and happiness!
2. They Are Your First Role Models
Let’s face it; sisters can never really stay out of each other’s hair or closet! If you have an older sister you have seen her dress up and marveled at how pretty she is, what a cool life she has. If you have a younger sister it is all about reliving another version of your younger self! The friends they make, the clothes they wear, they way their make-up is perfect, the way they have their own circle of cool people – sisters are people we look upto growing up!
3. They Have Your Back

Today I witnessed magic and a fairytale … When we were kids, mimi didi and I used to play “ghar ghar”. We would pretend to be shy brides, have imaginary children, and serve tea to our husbands! 🙈🙈 cheesy, but its because we always believed in the magic of love and hoped we would both find that perfect man for us one day!! Today there was no pretending. I cant think of a more a perfect man for her. Like I said this morning, there are two ways of judging a human being. One – travel with them, and two, eat with them. Nick, I have done both with you. And so I know you’re perfect for her!! Love her, because she loves you like mad! Protect her, because shes strong, but a soft soul inside. I love you both and wish you all the happiness forever!!!!! HAPPY ROKA AND FUTURE WEDDING!! 💍💑@priyankachopra @nickjonas
Ran out of your pocket money waaay too quickly? Don’t have the right dress for an occasion? Don’t know how to take permission of parents? Got into major trouble regarding job or school? Guess who is your go-to person to get you out of all these pickles? Not only will your sister get you out the mess, but 10/10 even take the blame that you got in the mess to begin with!
4. Whatever You Go Through They Go Through
Actually quite true, and not just because of the emotional connotation of sympathy pain; no. the good thing about growing with a sister is that whatever you go through from pressure to get married to having a million restrictions – she has gone through all of that! Whether in form of advice, or in form of getting that little extra thick-skinned she is your guru! And what a help she has been with all her empathy!
5. They Are Scientifically Better Than Brothers
We aren’t lying about this one! A research was lead by Tony Cassidy who purported that sisters are better siblings because they are more optimistic and deal with issues in emotionally healthy ways rather than impetuous and aggressive ways! Now that science is on our side, we can’t really push this further than the fact that sisters > brothers!
