All The Times Sabyasachi Was A Purveyor Of Diversity & Women Empowerment!

“I’m often asked—‘Who is the Sabyasachi bride?’ And I always say, ‘Everyone.’”- Sabyasachi Mukherjee

The evolution of women’s fashion in the 20th century is largely a story of liberation. Thus, revered designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee tries to be as democratic in his offering as possible, as he makes room for every bride’s dreams. The fashion artificer’s discerning eye traverses the globe and comes back home to create raiment rooted in traditions. The result? A global, cosmopolitan collection that soothes all souls alike.

We’ve known for a while that inclusivity is the future of the fashion industry, and as the Indian fashion industry moves slowly towards diversity, Sabyasachi Mukherjee makes sure he champions the movement. The fashion designer has been a huge supporter of breaking all those plus-size no-nos set for women. In a climate where all that anyone wants to talk about is what you should and shouldn’t be wearing according to your body type, Sabysachi Mukherjee subtly makes a statement.

His designs break down all cliché-ridden Indian bridal beauty stereotypes, he brings ‘dusky’ women in black lehengas, he even makes them wear white and bright colours, he doesn’t believe that one needs to be a certain size to rock his deep cleavages and broad V-necks.

However, catering to a globalised market in an increasingly diverse and vocal consumer base can be extremely challenging. Branding in the age of social media where you forge relationships directly with customers can often form a bond of misunderstanding. In fact, social media seems to have made brands less significant. However, the man — and his brand — is the country’s most successful fashion story.

When Sabysachi Mukherjee made a ‘curvy’, ‘dusky’ woman don the glorious red

When acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal looked like a goddess in a Sabyasachi weave

When he proved that grit could very well be glamour too

When he made sure all women have the same amount of fun irrespective their size

And lastly when Sabysachi Mukherjee shared the story of  his colleague Aditi Mittal saluting her bravery & her beauty

The importance of being Aditi. This is a special post and it is for Aditi, @aditimittal21 at her request. We have been working together for over 14 years now. We had many firsts. From an awkward tomboy, she morphed into a beautiful woman. She was always fun loving, a little eccentric , slightly cuckoo! And then she had cancer. She fought bravely, in her usual, matter-of-fact way. Aditi now has a one year old boy and cancer has struck again. Her greatest wish is to hold her child in her arms again; nothing else matters. As she prepares for chemo, Sanchit, her husband cuts her hair while she puts on her red lipstick because she wants to look her best. Women, I tell you, are amazing! Their strength takes me by surprise. Aditi wants to reach out to every woman through my Instagram to inspire them to keep fighting. Every day of their lives. For every little thing that matters. And I am sure a lot of men will fight alongside them. The world is still a beautiful place. Sabyasachi Photo Courtesy: @aditimittal21 #Sabyasachi #BreastCancerAwareness #TheWorldOfSabyasachi
