Sitting On The Pot With Your Phone Can Put You At The Risk Of Piles

While we are almost always glued to our phones, thanks to the advent of internet. Scrolling through our social media feeds is especially fun whilst taking a dump. When was the last time you sat watching your toilet tiles? Just for your knowledge, all that sitting and toiling ain’t all that good for you – It can wreck your butt!

Sitting too long on the throne can result in haemorrhoids aka bulging blood vessels around the anus. It’s the worst trade deal for a bunch of memes, right? “Sitting on the toilet puts excessive pressure on the veins in the rectum, especially if you strain to produce a bowel movement,” explains a primary care physician. “Prolonged pressure on those veins produces haemorrhoids, a swelling of the rectal veins that can ultimately lead to bleeding and possibly even rectal prolapse.”

Another big risk that comes with all that sitting, scrolling is that you may contaminate your smartphone with faecal bacteria. In fact, a British industry research study found the average screen is even dirtier than a toilet seat. Gross.

If you’re now using your gadget to google what to do, know that the only solution is to be mindful about your pooping time. “If a bowel movement is not produced after a couple minutes on the john, don’t force it. Instead, get up and go do something else. When you have the urge to go again, you may return to the toilet,” asserts a doctor. So, don’t just wash those nasty hands, it’s also important to clean your phone screen, every day.
