Instagram is so done with users fooling around with their ages. After nine years, the photo-sharing app is finally embracing more responsibility to protect underage kids from over exposure to social media. It’ll now start asking users to input their birth date and hence, bar users younger than 13 years of age from joining the app.
Instagram, however, won’t be asking existing users their age which means it’ll turn a blind eye to all underage kids amongst its 1 billion members. Further, the social media app also plans to start using users’ age info to offer guidance about settings and new privacy controls for young users.
Instagram is also adding the option to only allow people you follow to message you, add you to a group or reply to your story.
