The historic city of Agra might very soon be renamed to Agravan. The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to change the name of the city as it is believed by some that earlier the place was known as Agravan.
The UP government has sought expert advice from the Ambedkar University in Agra. The university’s history department has been asked to analyse the historical aspect of the name. The research has already begun as Prof Sugam Anand, head of the History department said, “We have received a letter from the state government to look for historical evidence if Agra city was known by any other name. We have begun the research and will reply to the letter”.
Earlier the Uttar Pradesh government had changed the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj, Faizabad to Ayodhya and the historic Mughal Sarai railway station to Deendayal Upadhyay.
