Crime against women doesn’t seem to be coming to an end in our country anytime soon. Hence Ludhiana police decided to take things on their hands as they launched a free night pick-and-drop facility for women in the city. This initiative has been taken in a bid to prevent mishaps against women.
Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal was told ANI, “We have started a new scheme under which, any woman who is unable to find a ride home at night, can call 1091 (child and women helpline) or 7837018555 and a police vehicle will drop them to their house”. The Commissioner further said that PCR vehicles, most of which are free during the night, will be used for the scheme and the facility will be available from 10 PM to 6 AM on all days.
This scheme saw the light of day after the police received numerous calls from women who were stuck on road and were unable to find taxis or autos. The police force is also organizing self-defense classes in schools and colleges. “Apart from this, women can also install ‘Shakti’ app, which sends a message and their location to 10 select contacts and the police in case of emergency”, the Commissioner said.
